Terrific at Tri-State – Goldstone, Diehl and Nelson Among Class Leaders, and the Sick Street Race – Street Race 275 Classes Too Close to Call After Day 4 of Sick Summer Presented By Motion Raceworks
After Mother Nature once again showed she was in control of outdoor activities, Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks rolled into Tri State Raceway for Day Four.
We were greeted with sunny skies and a full day of racing activities, but for some competitors, it was a struggle. For some competitors, it took until their last opportunity of the day to get the run they needed for a shot at the coveted Sick The Mag orange helmet.
As they did in 2024, the Sick Street Race and Street Race 275 classes are down to a matter of thousandths of-a-second to determine a winner, as we have one day left of competition remaining.
In the Street Race 275 class, Mike McMahon leads Jeremy Ortiz by a single thousandth of-a-second. Dean Anderson is just 5 thousandths of-a-second behind Ortiz. And considering those three have a two-tenths leads on the fourth spot, unless one of them drops out, those are very likely your top three. The final order will be determined today.
The Sick Street Race class is even closer, with Brian Acton leading Randy Belehar and Cameron Alley by just 4 thousandths of-a-second! Cody Poston has an outside shot in fourth in all three top three have a bad final day. Can Acton win his second-straight Sick Summer helmet, or will Belehar or Alley take the top spot?
Nick Cryer has commanded the top spot in Unlimited from the word “go” with his brand new 1933 Ford build. A best run of the week 7.29 seconds happened yesterday at Tri State Raceway, but posted this morning he is out of competition with some hurt engine parts.
After struggling on his first two runs, Bryant Goldstone kept his chances for a third straight Sick Summer title alive with a 6.66 at 222 mph blast to continue leading the ultimate iron class, as well as overall lowest average. Steve Morris remains in second, and Alex Taylor in third.
The Diehl Brothers, David and Nick, are a mere single magical pass away from drag and drive history in the Super Street class. Coming into Sick Summer, no one had run a 6-second pass and survived the week in the class. The Diehls have three of them, with Tri State providing a 6.97 at 205 mph. They are back in Byron for a chance at four records if they can complete the week with another 6-second run.
The Motion Raceworks “El Toro” Mustang could score its second straight Sick Summer Rowdy Radials title, and it could also provide a helmet to a first-time driver. Blayne Stark got his first Sick The Mag helmet last year, and Luis DeLeon could do it this year. He leads Tanner Stover‘s Chevelle by over a tenth of-a-second with one day to go.
The Dial Your Own (DYO) and Pro DYO classes got some shake up yesterday at Tri-State.
Incoming DYO co-leader Robert Hill slid back to second with his 2020 F150 pick-up truck, and Suzanne Rooker now leads by eight thousandths of-a-second. But with a top ten spot requiring less than five hundredths of-a-second variance between three days of time slips, one slip up and another competitor could slide into the top spot!
Pro DYO has Dan Dinan, Rocco Derrigo, Blake Mushen and Ken Zachman all coming into the last day with less than five hundredths of-a-second between their runs. Zachman is in the lead with his 8-second 2003 Mustang; can he hang on for his first Sick The Mag orange helmet?
Today, we return to where it all started – Byron Dragway - for Day Five on Sick Summer Presented by Motion Raceworks. The FRDM+ team will be on site to cover all the racing action, as well as the award ceremony.
