Sick Week Nominated for Best Motorsports Race in the US by USA Today 10 Best – Vote ‘Sick Week’ to Help Us Win in 2025!

Drag and drive events have increased by a large amount over the last four years, as the utilization of street and drag strip proving grounds combined into one event has become established as a popular format with competitors and fans alike.

Sick The Magazine started our print magazine in 2021 as a way to cover and highlight the drag and drive lifestyle, cars and people, and for 2025, our flagship event, Sick Week, has been nominated by USA Today 10Best as a ‘Best Motorsports Race in the United States’ finalist.

Our Sick At The Rock Presented by Motion Raceworks event is NEXT WEEK - April 10th - 12th, 2025 at Rockingham Dragway in North Carolina! Pro Mods and our new class - the Sick Street Car Challenge - with $32,000 up for grabs headline what would be a great three days at ‘The Rock!’ For more details on Sick At The Rock, and the over $50K in payouts, CLICK HERE!

“When we started the magazine in 2021, I knew an event would be the next step,” said Tom Bailey, founder of Sick The Magazine. “What I didn’t expect was how quickly Sick Week came to fruition, and the support of the community. From the competitors that continue to amaze us with their performances, to the staff and volunteers that run the event, Sick Ward participants and the thousands of fans that come out to watch the action and cheer on their favorites, it means so much to so many.”

That first event, Sick Week Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive, was held in 2022, and continues to be an annual event across Florida and Georgia. Over 300 teams compete by using street legal vehicles and making at least one pass each day at a different drag strip. They turn in their time slip of choosing and then travel between drag strips to the next day’s location using a specified route and checkpoints.

In basic terms, a competitor’s goal is to complete the event with their best (in most cases – lowest) average elapsed time possible and doing so without the aid of towing the car from track to track. It’s an easy-to-understand concept, but when putting vehicles with over 1,000 horsepower on the streets for several hundred miles, stress can lead to failed parts and pieces.

The street drives are one half of the equation, and although some believe the track runs can be the more brutal part of a drag and drive event, some competitors strongly disagree. “Surviving a drag and drive event takes a balanced approach,” said Brett LaSala. He should know, as a two-time winner of Sick Week, and owner of the quickest vehicle on drag radials in drag and drive history with a 6.24-second average over five days, accomplished at this year’s Sick Week.

Sick Week visits four drag strips across five days: Bradenton Motorsport Park, Gainesville Raceway, and Orlando Speedworld Dragway in Florida, and South Georgia Motorsports Park in Georgia. Four days of driving from track-to-track combines with five days of racing, where a competitor hands in their best time before hitting the road from each track day. In simple terms, the racer with the quickest average time is the winner. The event has become known as the ‘Super Bowl of Drag and Drive’ because of the level of competition, as well as the numerous record times set.

The 2025 nomination as a ‘Best Motorsports Race in the United States’ follows in the footsteps of the one USA Today informed the Sick The Mag staff of one year ago. That nomination, one of twenty selected by a panel of subject matter experts, and the USA Today 10Best editors, was announced before voting was opened to the public in early April.

“We’re proud to be the recipient of USA Today’s Best Motorsports Race award, and I hope this helps bring even more people into the world of drag and drive,” Tom said back in 2024, and he’s hoping for a repeat in 2025. “The strength of our showing is not just the event itself, but the people.

“When you match us up against well-known motorsport events at Daytona 500, the Indy 500, Pikes Peak, and the Knoxville Nationals, some wonder how we stack up,” Tom continued. “Sick Week, and the drag and drive style event, is open to everyone. It doesn’t matter whether a vehicle is a 6-second machine, or a 123-second daily driver, they all get equal time on the tracks, and have to complete the same drives over the course of a week. Our event creates memories for people from all walks of life, and we’re thankful for all those that choose to spend a week with us at tracks and on the road.”

Voting is now open for the USA Today 10Best ‘Best Motorsports Race in the United States’ entries, and we need your support! CLICK HERE TO VOTE - you can vote once a day!
