With a solid resume in bracket racing in multiple cars, Lane Cavar had become a common name in the winners’ circle on the west coast. But he still felt like something was missing, especially with his high school car, a 1979 Chevrolet Malibu.

“I have always attempted to keep my car as multipurpose as possible, but was getting to the point of being a sole race car,” said Lane. “Being this is the car I drove to high school, I wanted to revert the car back to street car form.”

“My first ever drag-and-drive was Sick Summer 2023, when my husband Jerry Konstatos put us with my 1987 Cutlass, “She Gone” on the waiting list. As luck would have it, we got in, and survived in the Dial-Your Own (DYO) Class D. I made top 100 to earn my place for 2024.”

Despite the lack of sleep and another year of thrashing, Jeff Kurczak is looking forward to spending time with his family on Sick Summer. Jeff will be piloting his Godzilla-powered ‘93 Mustang, while his son will wheel an ‘80 Fairmont. For daughter Aly Kurczak, she will participate as a competitor on her first drag-and-drive ever, after riding with Jeff on last year’s Sick Summer.

“Drag-and-drive is an opportunity for me and my husband to get to spend time just the two of us, doing what we love most, together and working as a team. Supporting each other, directing each other and just flat out laughing our asses off.”

“I would like to run at least one 6-second pass at Hot Rod Drag Week, and finish in the top three in my class.”

“I picked it because weather in New England sucks in January so it’s a good time to go south. The drag-and-drive format forces me to actually drive the car, and I like chaos.”

Ryan Mitchell is normally in the mix with this Firebird, and although it’s picked up its share of wins with a twin-turbocharged big block set-up, Ryan recently made the change to a ProCharger F-3 supercharger.
